Cognition of Truth…and so it begins

Spiritual Growth • February 16, 2010

Flashback to 2007, when this journey of mine took a significant turn.  That year I began to develop a true relationship with God and thankfully that connection lead me straight back to my roots and my anchor in Jesus that was planted early in my childhood (thank you, Mom).  Like many, I developed a way to hear God’s messages and so I began a journal of information meant to be shared when I was willing to deliver upon His service.  Many times he prompted me to share my knowledge “The cognition of Truth” as it was presented to me which I pondered for years.  What does it mean?  What am I supposed to say, write, speak about?

Recently, I find myself surrounded by earthly messengers who are prompting me to “tell my story” and share my knowledge.  The ego has a way of disarming that desire with thoughts like “who cares what I have to say” or “I’m not important enough to have anything worthy of sharing”.  Know those voices?  Ah, the critical doubter coming from the pesky ego that loves to torment us against our hearts desires (God’s desires).  And those thoughts blasts us back into this worldly reality that we have each created for ourselves – whatever that might be.  A lesson of faith comes to mind – meaning my lesson in practicing faith if  I intend to provide the insight on this process and what it means to walk His walk instead of talk the talk.

So today, I will embrace and execute this calling of service to be the messenger that He has asked me to be.  Not sure what that looks like yet but that is all part of the fun that He intended for us here on this crazy planet.  In the meantime, I promise to share with you my findings as this will certainly land me in a sea of doctrines most likely prepared for us back in the 1800’s and prior.  The researcher in me is very excited about this undertaking and I hope to sprinkle the intellect from all of this dry text with some cutting edge insights of this century.  Intrigued or just bored with this already?  Well, that will be interesting to see.  I don’t think He would request this of me if He didn’t have an audience in mind…what is He calling you to do that you keep putting off?  Am I the only one?

So far, the Cognition of Truth reveals some lovely insights that I’ll share with you from this excerpt that I found at www.orthodoxphotos.com/readings/kingdom/treasure.shtml – I hope they don’t mind me sharing. I believe that this is a great way to kick-off this part of the journey.

Cognition of truth in its fullness is not a one-off act of will but a process, which runs simultaneously with intellectual and spiritual development of an individual. The Gospel pronounced truth not merely for the enlightenment of mind, but for its spiritual improvement. “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness.” “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness,” orders the Savior (Matthew 6:33).

The teaching of Christ is extremely rich in contents and is actually inexhaustible. It is designed to guide one’s thoughts and will at any step of spiritual development. It can be applied to slaves and freemen, monks and married people, academics and illiterates, workers and kings. It indicates the way toward penance and correction for sinners; it directs and strengthens up those who are burdened and oppressed with toils; it gives wisdom and sanctifying grace to those who strive to reach perfection.

and my favorite part…About the purpose of learning of truth, the Lord said, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31-32). Being free of darkness of delusion and serfdom of passions — that is the genuine freedom granted to everyone who loves truth.

The next post…”If we have been told the truth, why do we resist it so much?”
